A man working at Sibanye-Stillwater’s 7 Shaft allegedly killed and mutilated one of his co-workers in a gruesome manner this afternoon.

According to a witness who spoke to the Merafong Observer, the victim had just left the medical aid offices at the shaft and was heading to his car to get his clock card, when the attacker stabbed him in his side with a knife. The witness said that the attacker then proceeded to cut off the victim’s head and kick it away from his body. [Merafong Observer]
When all these shocking things were done, the man took out his cellphone, sat next to the victim's body and took selfies.

But the horror did not end there. The witness said that the attacker then sliced open the victim’s abdomen and ate something from his intestines. He then took out his phone and took selfies with the corpse. The witness said that the attacker was very calm and casual throughout the ordeal. [Merafong Observer]

The witness said that the victim had tried to run to the security guards at the entrance of the shaft, but they had denied him access. He said that this was very unfortunate, as the victim might have survived if they had let him in. He said that everyone who saw the incident was extremely traumatised and that they were planning to get professional counselling. [Merafong Observer]

The Merafong Observer reported that the police had been called, but they had not arrived at the scene by the time the witness left. The South of Johannesburg News Bulletin has not been able to get any comments from the Westonaria SAPS or the provincial authorities on this matter.

This is a developing story and we will keep you updated as more information becomes available. Stay tuned for more news after the break.
